Bumpy Nights, Bumpy Days

Sunday afternoon nearly did me in. Both kids have been whining and crying more than usual for the last couple of days. There is a lot of waking up in the night, crying, requests, more crying, a bit of laughing (We were lying in bed the other night and all of sudden heard Harper laughing in her sleep!), eating, peeing, even more crying…This makes for cranky children during the day. And mommies, well, my patience seems to run off for a smoke break right when I need it.

So yesterday afternoon we headed up to the playground to get some of that icky out.

And it worked.

They look so adorable in these photos. I can't help but like them again.

Hey Marseilles

I can't get these guys out of my head. Catchy tunes, compelling lyrics, major instrumentation and lovely sound. Did I mention a cello. They had me with the cello.

They are local boys too so I am hoping to see them on September 15th.

Enjoy.

the little ox eats

Windham has quite a reputation as an eater. For awhile he was known around the 'hood as Foodar. If there was food within' sniffing distance, he would find his way to it. Oh, we feed him. Boy just like to eat.

This little anecdote about sums up his reputation.

This is the story Penny told me about talking to Micah about his upcoming birthday party.

Penny: Micah, can you tell me who is coming to your birthday party?

Micah: Soren, Sophia, Roman, Harper, Windham (starts to cry)

Penny: Why are you crying?

Micah: Windham is going to eat all of my cake.*

He apparently causes food anxiety among the other neighborhood children.

He has recently decided that he wants to sit in a big boy chair, not in a high chair. He set up shop at the other end of the table from the rest of us and began to eat.

*For the record, Windham did not eat any cake at Micah's birthday party. One donut, no cake.

Summer Nights

Windham is quite enamored with this garden gnome. He was carrying it around last night, using it as a phone. Maybe the gnome is speaking to him?

Harper is fishing. See the fish?

Trying again

It has been awhile since I posted anything on The Holliman Chronicles. We did not cease to exist, just got busy with living and playing and riding and such.

Summer sprung early here in the Pacific Northwest. We had a side yard to dig up, garden boxes to build, vegetables to plant. And it got hot early too. The tomatoes loved it but we were miserable. So we bought a kiddie pool.

Our friends from across the street came back for summer vacation, Idris, Shamarke and Jabril. Unfortunately, their Grandma moved away so we won't see them anymore. We sure enjoyed their company each summer. They were always a big help with our yard tasks and loved playing with the kids. Thanks gentlemen for your friendship and good times.

We had a few bike rides (more on the bike camping trip to Bainbridge later), some with Nanna and Poppy! Woohoo. I am so excited my folks have decided to get on the bicycles. I am so proud of them. Linda and I did the Pioneer Century 45 mile ride in Canby in June.

We had a great trip to Portland to visit with Uncle Steve and Aunt Susan. Lots of fun riding bikes, playing balloon, chillin' 'round Lake O.

We have been to a few Sounders games. I am doing my very best to gift my children with a love of soccer. Harper is perfecting her "Goooooooooo Sounders" Mostly they love to watch the airplanes fly over the stadium. And the kettle corn. Whatever it takes.

We finally got an ice cream shop in Columbia City. Full Tilt is a welcome oasis of delicious ice cream dangerously close. Harper and Windham are totally capable of devouring their own cones. I snapped this the other night when we met some friends for late evening cones.

So there is a bit of The Hollimans from the past 3 months. I hope to get back on the horse and keep this thing updated more regularly. Now that the days are getting shorter and the nights cooler, I feel good about the prospects…
